UTILITY & MAINTENANCE
Finger jointed solid wood panel boards can be used for all practical purposes just as ordinary wood. It is obvious that the precautions to be undertaken to protect ordinary wood are also applicable to the solid wood boards.

The optimum moisture level is maintained when the board is being produced. But it is very important to sustain the appropriate moisture level as rapid fluctuation may pose problems like edge cracking, warping etc.

During the assembly of the board, the edges are sealed using wooden strips on both sides. But once the strips are removed at the time of cutting the board, it is important that the edges are sealed by using wooden strips, in case the board is not used as an insert in a panel and if the board is to be fixed with other segments, then the edge sealing should be done using lacquer, sealer, paint etc.

At the time of delivery, the board is supplied covered in polythene sheet bags. At the time of application the board should be sealed on the surface by using lacquer, sealer, paint etc., to prevent any variation in the moisture level of the board. This change in moisture level may cause warping in the board if proper surface sealing in not carried out.

In case the board absorbs moisture, it will expand in proportion to its width. This should be carefully checked in case of customized designer furniture. If this little expansion is not allowed, the board may crack or bend. So, in case of wall paneling or furniture application, ample gap should be provided for expansion or contraction of the board, which is natural as this is pure wood material only.

Just a little consideration in utilizing the board can enhance the life of the solid wood board and it can be of great practical use in a lot of applications viz:- furniture, kitchen cabinets, shutters, wooden flooring, wall paneling, door panels & window frames etc.
